A SONG OF THE BLUFF

This project will share local historian, Jimmy Cunningham's, journey to transform the city of Pine Bluff's reputation. Once a location of prominence, the tiny rural town is named by some as one of the most “dangerous” cities in the state. Economic wealth has decreased, crime and poverty have soared, and its population has and continues to migrate elsewhere. However, Cunningham, a Pine Bluff native and historian, is trying to change that. He will have to team up with local organizations and produce an unforgettable exhibit to show that this land where Elvis Presley and Bobby Rush lived should not be forgotten, but reborn.

THE PRIZE

The Prize is a dramedy short film that follows an unhappy African American woman who gets more than she bargains for when she stumbles upon an energetic “old -head.” The film acknowledges a rare perspective of vulnerability within an ordinary black woman and presents an uplifting scenario of an elder encouraging a young woman to recognize the value within herself.
