Micheaux Social Recap: Wednesday Spins Social at AMFA
In June 2026, the Micheaux Award & Film Labs (MAFL) brought together filmmakers, storytellers, and creative leaders from across Arkansas for a dynamic Wednesday Spins Social at the Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts as an official affiliate event of Juneteenth in Da Rock. The evening featured an engaging conversation with Deshaun Artis (Netflix), Academy Award nominee Arlo Washington (The Barber of Little Rock), and filmmaker SeJames Humphrey, moderated by MAFL social events chair Osyrus Bolly. Together, the panel explored navigating creative careers from Arkansas, the evolving role of AI and digital platforms, and the importance of authentic Black storytelling in a changing cultural and economic landscape.
Attendees connected with industry professionals, emerging creatives, and community leaders while discussing the future of film, media, and entrepreneurship in Arkansas. The event reinforced the Micheaux Award & Film Labs' mission to create meaningful opportunities for creatives of color by fostering collaboration, mentorship, and conversations that inspire the next generation of storytellers. As highlighted in media coverage following the event, the discussion addressed timely issues including TikTok, artificial intelligence, representation, and building sustainable creative careers despite shifting DEI landscapes—demonstrating why spaces like the Micheaux Socials continue to be essential for Arkansas's growing creative community.
