The Micheaux Award & Film Labs (MAFL) are designed to promote creative and professional development for filmmakers of color.

Micheaux Labs facilitate year-round educational and networking opportunities to strengthen the Arkansas-based creative communities of color.

MAFL NURTURE THE NARRTIVE SERIES

THE PODCAST: TAP

In collaboration with the University of Arkansas Dr. Barbara A. Lofton Office of Diversity & Inclusion MAFL hosted a Micheaux Podcast Lab for the students participating in the Technology Awareness Program. TAP

From ideation to implementation, students created and produced a complete season of episodes for the MAFL Nurture the Narrative Podcast. Listen as TAP students share their personal experiences from high school in their hometowns.

March 2026 | El Dorado, Arkansas

The Micheaux Award & Film Labs brought storytelling, creativity, and community connection to El Dorado, Arkansas for a special day celebrating emerging voices in film and media.

Owning Your Voice Film Lab

Aspiring storytellers, students, and community members participated in the Owning Your Voice Film Lab: Developing Your Leadership Through Storytelling.

This interactive workshop explored how storytelling can be used as a powerful tool for leadership, communication, and creative expression. Participants engaged with hands-on activities and discussions designed to help them discover their voice and begin shaping their own stories for film, media, and community impact.
